Key Facts About Eisenhower Center
What is Eisenhower Center?
We are a non-profit work and services program for adults with disabilities. Each day, 80 adults with cerebral palsy, neurological disorders or other developmental disabilities, come to our facility and work on jobs for area companies; they are paid for the work that they perform. Jobs include assembly work, packaging of various items and shrink wrapping services. Therapy services (speech, occupational and physical therapy) are provided as needed at our facility. If they are able to work, why don't these disabled adults get "real" jobs?
Some of these adults (we call them clients) are able to work (and do) in the community. However, most of the clients we serve have severe physical disablities; most employers do not have the capability to assist our clients with their day to day special needs. At Eisenhower Center we have staff members who help with personal care needs (like feeding lunch to those who need help in order to eat). In addition, staff members design and build adaptive equipment that makes it possible for each client to be as productive as possible - even those who are unable to work with their hands! How long has Eisenhower Center existed?
We trace our origins back to the 1950's. At that time, an organization known as the Cerebral Palsy Parent's Group formed to try and determine future possibilities for their children. This group eventually split into two separate agencies, one of which was Eisenhower Center. Yes, we are named after President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who had a personal interest in helping people with cerebral palsy. What makes Eisenhower Center unique?
We are the only non-residential work program for adults with disabilities southeastern Wisconsin.Does Eisenhower Center have any national affiliations?
We do not have any national affiliations. All money raised directly benefits our program and clients. What are Eisenhower Center's sources of funding?
We receive a portion of our funds from Milwaukee County. We raise the rest of the money needed each year through grant writing, fund raising events and donations. We receive no funding from the United Cerebral Palsy and are not a United Way agency. How can I find out more about Eisenhower Center?
